There is hope for people with depression.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has said the support he received after opening up about his mental health issues have been overwhelming. He has opened up about his secret battle with depression which left him ‘devastated’ and crying constantly; one month after he witnessed his mother’s attempted suicide when he was 15. He discussed the darkest time of his life in a new interview with The Express. He said ‘struggle and pain is real’. Throughout his life Dwayne said he’s battled that beast of depression more than once.
Depression is a common mental disorder that presents with depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, low energy and poor concentration. This state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person’s thoughts, behaviour, feelings and physical well-being. It may include feelings of sadness, anxiety, emptiness, hopelessness, worthlessness, irritability or restlessness. This can affect your relationships with people, performance at work and physical health too.
Some symptoms of depression include persistent sadness, anxious or empty mood, decreased energy, feeling fatigue, early morning awakening or oversleeping. Beside these, other signs are drastic change of appetite, sudden loss interest in things and activities that once were pleasurable or suffering cognitive impairments (difficulty concentration, remembering details and making decisions). It may be difficult to notice these things happening to yourself, so keep an ear out for what your circle or family friends are telling you. Also take some time out to evaluate if you are in a good place, struggling a little bit or in difficult place and need help.
The first step of solving the problem do things that make you feel good and things that you used to enjoy. You have to do things that relax and energize you. This includes following a healthy lifestyle routine, learning how to better manage stress, setting limits on what you’re able to do and scheduling fun activities into your day.
Depression can be treated by psychotherapy. It helps by teaching new ways of thinking and behaving and changing habits that may be contributing to depression. Other than that, pick up a former hobby or a sport you used to like. Express yourself creatively through music, art or writing. Go out with friends. take a day trip to a museum, the hiking hills or the park.
In order to overcome depression, practice relaxation techniques. It helps relieve symptoms of depression, reduce stress and boost feelings of joy and well-being such as try yoga, deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation or meditation.
One important step way to get rid of depression by aiming for eight hours sleep. Depression typically involves sleep problems whether you’re sleeping too little or too much, your mood suffers. Get on a better sleep schedule by learning healthy sleep habits.
Things that can do for a quick mood boost is spend some time in nature, read a good book. listen to a music, talk to friends or family face to face. When you are depressed try to keep up with social activities even if you don’t feel like it. It feels more comfortable to retreat into your shell, but being around other people will make you feel less depressed. It is important that you don’t suffer alone.
